It took me a long time to finish this book. I guess I didn't really "get" it. If you read this book and you thought it was good, post a comment on what you thought was so great about it.
I do like the song "Hey Jack Kerouac" by 10,000 Maniacs, though.

wow, kerouac? that's pretty ambitious of you. i think kerouac is an author only english majors could appreciate. i tried to read one of his books but it was hard for me to follow and i didn't finish it.

you don't know me. but i know melissa lee. and i just happened to stumble upon your site and then stumble upon your blog.
"On the Road" is very stream-of-consciousness. Very anecdotal.
And. there may not seem like a point to the whole book. and that's the point.
And perhaps we can't "dig it" until we take off in search of enlightenment at the drop of a dime and figure IT all out, but first figuring what IT is.
it's about embracing life, which extends beyond our understanding, but then enjoying the fundemental things that connect us together. leave everything behind in search of truth, beauty, and love stripped down to the bare bone.
he writes in part 1, about a dozen paragraphs in: "the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn burn burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars.
true direction comes from inside the mind and everything else is just accessory?
